So taking a look at (-24)/(-6) we want to take out common factors. If both the numerator and denominator have a common factor, we can in essence "cross out" or divide out the common factor and simplify the fraction.
Looking at -24 and -6, we can see that both numbers are negative, so we can divide out a -1.
The resultant expression is 24/6 and because both numbers are divisible by 6, we can factor out a 6 to get
4*6/6*1 and then divide out a 6 to get 4/1 = 4.
The rational answer is 4
