I would use a different turn of phrase. You don't use "make x out of y" reflexively, except when saying literally, "I made something of myself."
Also, as it is, the statement doesn't really make sense: it pretty much reads as "I didn't adore you because you were cute despite having a hard life. No, I adored you because you were cute despite having a hard life."
