Does "His eyes fell shut" make sense?

This is something I've been writing for a while, but I know that I tend to keep writing things from my tween years that may not make sense. Have you ever read a sentence like "his eyes fell shut" or maybe "his eyelids fell shut"? To me, it's kind of like writing "the door swung open"... His eyes fell shut. Hmmm.

"His eyelids fell shut" makes more sense, but I don't think I've read either phrase in a published text. If you're looking to branch out in your writing, try changing the subject of this sentence from "his eyes" to "he." You could also make the subject an object or scene that the character is looking at, thus showing the character's perspective – right before he falls asleep.
