Where did Japan get their oil during WWII?

To my understanding the United States was the largest exporter of oil to the Japanese prior to Pearl Harbor. The Japanese islands aren't known for their oil fields. It's also believed that the attacks of pearl harbor are the result of the US refusing to send Japan oil. Were there any other countries supporting Japan with oil?How did the Japanese manage to maintain a military without imported oil?

A confluence of factors resulted in the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. Just months before, Japan invaded what is now known as Vietnam. The U.S. responded by freezing Japan's assets in the U.S. This meant the Japanese had no funds to buy oil. The Dutch and British shut off their oil supplies from the Philippines and Indonesia into Japan. After years of aggression into Asia, the Japanese precipitated the oil embargo, and some months later attacked Pearl Harbor.
