From a CAD model to an Illustration drawing. How to?

I am trying to draw the best illustration I can for a user manual.I have a CAD drawing in .STP and I would like to get some simple illustations in .AI or .EPS or .SVG I tried to export the illustrations with a couple of CAD programs (3D Via Composer, 3D MAX) and import them into Illustrator. The drawings are innacurate, borders aren't curved but made with several segments.How should I handle this?

I would just open the stp in a 3d program set the view you want and take a screenshot, then open that in illustrator and trace it
