>Mark is crying, sitting in the middle of the hall.
>Mark is sitting in the middle of the hall and crying.
I know both sentences are grammatically correct. But which is good for creative writing?
This is a great question about tone and style in creative writing. There's a lot of leeway in fiction writing. A writer will develop his/her own style which may incorporate many language "quirks". The literary world is full of examples of this from Joyce to Faulkner. I would say a general rule is sentence variety, i.e. not all your sentences sound the same. And the conjunction "and" sounds particularly weak (almost "lame") to a sophisticated ear; I would avoid overusing it in principle.
