The phrase "a slip of the tongue" is basically saying that "the cat is out of the bag", meaning the information that one divulged is out in the open in the atomsphere. However, when dealing with the formal study of Psychology the concept is referred to as "The Freudian Slip". The concept of "The Freudian Slip" is utilized to describe some strange and/or embarrasing behavior. The concept was coined by the famous Psychologist Segmund Freud, known as the Father of Psychoanalysis. Freud believed that people often experienced cases of "The Fruedian Slip", as a result of an unconcious thought, belief, wish or motive.
