Is there a word for writing and not looking at it (while writing)?

Writing while looking at something else -- your hand is still moving, your writing is still legible, but your eyes are elsewhere, such as reading from the source material being copied.

I believe there isn't an exact term for that specific action. Writing while looking at something else is more of an involuntary action than anything else.

Great question! In regards to writing (typing) on a computer, the phrase would be "touch typing." I would have to do some research to see if there is a word for the same idea with pen and paper. Hope this helps in the meantime!
