SAT Writing Question?

When Considering Hello everyone, I just had a question about grammar. I picked **choice A** and got the correct answer, but I wans't too confident about why I should eliminate the others. Just to give my insight into this: I picked A because I thought that there must be past tense. But I can't strongly make a choice to eliminate them. Any insight would be helpful, thanks for your time.

Like you said, option A is correct because it is tense-appropriate with the verb "made" and "sent". All three of the other answers are happening present tense no matter what other words ("Upon"&"When") they throw in to confuse you. Options B, C, and D are all bad form because they establish a present moment for the events of the sentence only to brush past the subject's "considerations" and summarily describe his action. It is inefficient to say the least.
