Who was the "us" God referred to in Genesis?

If you are referring to the "us" mentioned in the beginning of Genesis during the creation account, I have often heard it taught that "us" refers to the Trinity. This is because all three Persons of the Trinity (as God is 3 in 1) were present from the beginning, none of them were created. They were all present at creation, and even played distinct roles in creating the world. John 1 talks more about this, as does Hebrews 1, Colossians 1:15-20, and a few other passages.
