Aphasia is a disorder of language in speech, reading, and/or writing caused by damage to brain areas specialized for these functions. There are several different types of aphasias, so whether or not it can be treated depends on the type of aphasia as well as the extent of the damage. The treatment is typically tailored to the individual, but generally includes speech and language therapy.
