Hi Stephanie M
My name is Brenda D
I tried sending a video as well but if you did not get it here is the information for you.
Your question where two numbers x + y =62 and 2x = y + 13 can be done quickly using Systems of Equations
x + y =62 will be the first equation
2x= y +13 is the second equation
We can first rewrite the second equation as 2x – y =13 then we will have both equations in the some form with the variables on one side of the equal sign and the numbers on the other side
So we have
x + y = 62
2x –y =13
With y being positive in one of the equations and negative in the other, we can combine the equations to quickly eliminate y and solve for x.
x + y = 62
+2x –y =13
3x = 75 we can divide both sides by 3 to get x
x = 25
Now that we have x we can substitute the value for x, 25, into the first equation to get y
25 + y = 62 we can subtract 25 from both sides to get y
y = 62- 25
y = 37
We can now check both numbers by substituting them into the original equation 2x = y + 13
2(25) = 37 + 13
50 = 50
