Is the answer to 6^2 / 2(3) + 4 = 10 or 58, and why?

Jocelyn T.

To clarify, is the 2(3) in the denominator?

It's all about order of operation. If you square 6 and then divide by 2 and multiply the result by 3 you get 54 and add 4, you get 58. But, if you square 6 and then divide by 2(3)=6 then you get 6 and add 4, your result is 10. It depends what you have in your denominator, look below: Case 1: ((6^2) / 2) ×3 + 4 = 58 Case 2: ((6^2)/(2×3)) + 4 = 10
