27 is 6 more than 3 times a number.
is translates to =
more than (means you add )+
3 times a number is 3 x (a number)
Let N represent anumber.
27 = 6 + 3N
You want to get N on one side of the equal sign and everything else on the other side of the equal sign.
Remember as long as you do the same thing on both sides of the equal sign the problem remains the same.
example
2 +. 3. = 5. If I subtract 3 from both sides of the equation. 2 + 3 - 3 = 5 - 3 or 2 = 2
27 = 6 + 3N
So since you want to get rid of 6 you subtract 6 from both sides of the equal sign
27 - 6 = 6 + 3N - 6
21. =. 3N
Now you want to get ride of the 3. Since 3 is multiplied by N you will divid by three to get rid of it or make it equal 1. 1 times anything always equals what ever you multiply it by.
1 x 3 = 3. 1 x 101 = 101
21/3. = 3N/3
7. =. N
