The commitment to equity requires that individuals not only are able to identify and distinguish discrimination and its limitations as imposed on certain persons but are also dedicated to the crossing and/or removal of those barriers that define its occurrences. In an educational setting, this requires the teacher and others within the classroom community to teach and learn in ways that not only allow equal access to learning, but also ways that involve active participation of all learners. This includes diversity, however it is not a compromise to diversity or an immunity to it, but rather an embracing of it in a meaningful and evident capacity.
