2x − 3y = −19; 4x + 5y = 17
Hello Aniya,
I am going to use the elimination method. To do so, I will multiply the first equation by -2
→ -4x + 6y = 38.
Now add this to the second equation
→ 11y = 55
→ y = 5.
Plug this back into either of the original equations. I am going to use the first one
→ 2x - 3(5) = -19
→ 2x - 15 = -19
→ 2x = -4
→ x = -2.
So the ordered pair is
(-2, 5).
Thank you for posting the question with Wyzant.
