We know the average is 6m based on a sample of 2 data points. Thus:
(n1 + n2)/2 = 6
We also know that the baby is 2/3 the height of the other giraffe. Thus:
n1 = (2/3)n2 *Note, I have defined n1 as the height of the baby giraffe and n2 as the height of the other*
Substituting this in to our first equation:
((2/3)n2 + n2)/2 = 6
((5/3)n2)/2 = 6
(5/3)n2 = 12
n2 = 36/5
But, we want the height of the baby giraffe (n1), so:
n1 = (2/3)*(36/5)
n1 = 24/5
n1 = 4.8 m
