This is a common problem that will come up repeatedly. The two steps, that I will explain with both examples, are to cross-multiply and solve for x.

11/ 24.3 = 8/x Cross-multiple

11x = 8(24.3) = 194.4 Divide by 11 to solve for x

x = 194.4/11 = 17.67

x/8=12/14.5 Cross-multiple

14.5x = 8(12) = 96 Divide by 14.5 to solve for x

x = 96/14.5 = 6.62
