The speed of the current is 7 mph.
It makes more sense AND makes the problem correct.
Downstream
104= (x+7)t = xt+7t
104=(x-7)(133/3-t)
foil s right side.
They both equal 104,so sets them equal:
Xt+7t= (133/3)x-xt+7t-931/3
Subtracts 7t:
Xt = (133/3)x -xt - 931/3
Adds xt:
2xt = (133/3)x - 931/3
Multiplies by 3 to clear the fraction:
6xt = 133x-931
So t = (133x-931)/(6x)
Substitutes into the downstream equation:
104= (x+7)(133x-931)/(6x)
624x= (x+7)(133x-931)
624x= 133x^2-931x+931x-6517
624x=133x^2-6517
0=133x^2-624x-6517
Quadratic formula says x=9.728486130379....
Is the speed of the boat
Yes it checks
