The total number of students in the cafeteria does not matter. We don't need to know there are 49 students in the cafeteria to answer the question.
How many girls are there? 35 right? How many boys are there? 14 right? This is so simple you may laugh. The ratio of girls to boys is 35 to 14. Written mathematically, you can write 35:14.
