I have 34 years of tutoring, teaching, and curriculum development experience with teenagers and young adult learners, was selected from 60 fellow instructors as the Instructor of the Year, and I am a qualified Master Training Specialist (MTS). The MTS qualification is a recognition of instructors who have demonstrated excellence, technical competence, and application of instructional methodology to provide quality instruction. The certification includes semester hours in the fields of learning framework, instructional methodology, and educational leadership.

My applicable skills include the areas of didactic instructor, facilitator, curriculum manager, computer based training, and student development.

I was in the healthcare field for 20 years while in the military and have been retired since 2012. Since that time I have been a stay-at-home-dad with my three daughters and a full-time student. My volunteer work includes serving at Helen Hunt Jackson Elementary School and Rancho Community Church. My personal hobbies include rebuilding lawn mower engines with my daughters.

My experience educating young adult learners has enhanced my experience at Helen Hunt Jackson Elementary School where I assist educators by utilizing instructional methodologies during interactions with students in group and individual formats to strengthen vocabulary skills, reading comprehension, and mathematic abilities. My teaching experience at Rancho Community Church allows me to lead first through third grade children in their search for religion and deepen the faith and knowledge of those who are already Christians.

Approved Subjects

AFOQT

AFOQT

As a senior member and leader in several military commands, I had the responsibility of training active duty officers. Among other subjects, teaching specific military applications of mathematics that is included in the AFOQT exam was integral to success of the junior officers. Specifically, the teaching I did was heavily focused on the AFOQT concepts of proportions, angular geometry, and mathematical unit conversions. The training that I provided resulted in 100 percent of officers achieving the required competencies.
ASVAB

ASVAB

Many of my tutoring clients have come to me after they have tried to study on their own and have failed their ASVAB exam. Most of my clients have requested help in the areas that deal with math, specifically the Mathematics Knowledge (MK) and Arithmetic Reasoning (AR). After working with me, all my clients that have retaken the ASVAB exam have earned passing scores allowing them to join the military.

Fantastic ASVAB tutor!

Michael was a fantastic tutor! I hadn't taken a math course since high school (9 years ago). Michael knew to take me back to the basics and review primary concepts. I was able to score a 90% on the ASVAB, with arithmetic reasoning and math being two of my best sections. I highly recommend Michael!

Great ASVAB Tutor

Michael was a great tutor! He helped me increase my GT score by 10 points and my overall ASVAB score by 9 points. I am now eligible for the career path I want to take in the future. He was patient with me and understood that it had been years since I did math like this in high school and only had one math class in college. He explains concepts and formulas very well. Along with that he provided me with practice problems to work on in between sessions. I highly recommended Michael for the ASVAB and any other tutoring needs that you may have.

Knowledgeable and Patient tutor

Micheal is very knowledgeable of the Math problems he is teaching my son. I really like the fact that he takes his time to teach him every step-by-step my son needs to learn in order for him to understand what he is learning he is also very patient. My son Is learning and will continue to be taught by Mike for us as parents it yes a great deal Since my son has always had IEP classes and there is a little bit slower than everybody else that a tutor has the Patients and Mike has that in him.we are happy that we chose Mike to teach him.

Great

Michael was very understanding and thorough with all subjects. I appreciate his honesty and commitment to being a tutor. We went over many subjects and took everything one step at a time. I see my time with Michael well spent and plan on to continue my sessions with Michael.

Well prepared and full of fresh materials

Michael brought the class back to the basics with a well organized evaluation of level. Along with his deep grasp of the materials and ability to explain concepts, his supplementary materials were considerable, and came with free video explanations of how to complete each individual question. This was very useful, especially when I ran into a problem that Michael had explained, but that I had forgotten!
