The first problem with this is that the fractions are not identical. In subtracting fractions, we need ALL denominators to be common.
Our first step is to set 3/4 and 1/2 with common denominators by multiplying the entirety of (1/2) by 2. This will turn 1/2 into 2/4.
Now we can subtract the fractions, which are now 6 3/4 minus 4 2/4.
Start with the fractions first, in case we need to regroup. 3/4 - 2/4 = 1/4
Then subtract the whole numbers. 6 - 4 - 2
This gives us 2 1/4
