The quotient of 2 numbers is the result of division. Our 2 numbers in this problem are x+13 and -7 and the quotient is 4. therefore, we can write this problem as
(x+13)/(-7)=4
To solve for x:
x+13=(4)(-7) multiply both sides by -7
x+13=-28
x=-28-13 subtract 13 from both sides
x=-41 solve for x
