The number of pigs plus the number of chickens is 32. (p+c=32)
Let’s us p to represent pigs and c to represent chickens. Now let’s assign a value to the variables p and c.
p=c+4 (because there are 4 more pigs than chickens).
c=c
Insert these values into the initial equation at the top of this answer and solve for c.
c+4+c=32
2c+4=32
-4 -4
2c=28
/2 /2
c=14
Now that we know there are 14 chickens, let’s find out how many pigs.
p=32-14
p=18
