after step 1 he walks (1/2)8=4 feet
after step 2 he walks (1/2)4=2 feet
after step 3 he walks (1/2)2=1 foot
after step 4 he walks (1/2)1=1/2 foot
he walks 4+2+1+(1/2)=7 1/2 feet and he will never reach the end of his path because he is always taking half of some distance, no matter how small
