Find number n based on a certain percentage x that contributed to number n

I'm trying to find out the sales tax in dollars from a number that was submitted which included the 6% sales tax. For example, if 10,600 was submitted, I need a way to figure out that 600 was the sales tax and 10,000 was the non-taxable portion. In my case, the number submitted is 6243.15. I need to strip out the sales tax part of that number. The sales tax in my state is 6%. Please tell me how you get that number (a formula, etc).

Thanks for any help.
