More than one verb and subject in a sentence?

Question

My student asked me the other day why we can say sentences like "I think I drive to fast" or "I think I can go to the concert" since you have the subject - I, verb - think, and then another subj and verb? I'm not sure how to explain it?

One reason for this is that they could be separated by the preposition “that.” Another way to look at this is to think of “I think” as modifying the primary verb (e.g., drive or go). It expresses a level of doubt or uncertainty, creating the subjunctive mood.
