The areas were settled by very different groups culturally and religiously. New England was settled by Quakers while Pennsylvania was settled by the Amish, Mennonites, and Lutherans.
georgia, for instance, was a penal colony, so the culture there would be much different. South Carolina was primarily settled by heguenots escaping catholic persecution in France.
the envirments were also different, leading to the south being agricultural and the north mainly industrialized, further differentiating the settlers in those areas.
