Hello Bob,
I am going to use the elimination method for this problem by making 'C' the same amount, but different in sign.
Let C = the price of the senior citizen ticket and
let S = price of the student ticket.
Then for the first day we get
10C + 11S = 190 {Equation 1}.
For the second day we get
5C + 12S = 160
→ -10C - 24S = -320, by multiplying through by -2 {Equation 2}.
By adding {Equation 1} and {Equation 2}, we get
-13S = -130
→ S = 10
→ 10C + 11(10) = 190, using {Equations 1},
→ 10C = 80
→ C = 8
So the student ticket is $10 and
the senior citizen ticket is $8.
Thank you for posting the question with Wyzant!
