Dwayne made 14 baskets helping his team win.his 2 points and 3 point shots totaled 37 points. How many of each did he make? I dont understand this it makes no sense

Let Y = number of 3 point shots

Note : Each basket is equal to either 2 points or 3 points.

Given the information above, we can write the following

equations:

X + Y = 14

2X + 3Y = 37

We can now solve the system of equations for Y.

(-2)(X + Y) = (-2)(14)

2X + 3Y = 37

-----------------------

-2X - 2Y = -28

2X + 3Y = 37

-----------------------

Y = 9

Now we can substitute the value of Y into equation X + Y = 14

and solve for X.

X + Y = 14

X + 9 = 14

X = 5

Dwayne made 5 two point baskets and 9 three point baskets.
