In order to find the variables, first think about what is being recorded: in this case, the type of rose, and the number of rose flowers grown.
In order to determine which is dependent and which is independent ask yourself which one depends on the other.
Is it more likely that the type of rose depends on how many flowers?
Or does the number of flowers depend on the type of rose?
It doesn't make sense to say that the type of the rose depends on how many flowers it has.
It does, however, make sense to say that the number of flowers depends on the type of rose.
Therefore, the number of flowers is the dependent variable, and the type of rose is the independent variable.
