Did I do this right? (Physics Problem)

Suppose we have a string 1.2m long and fixed at both ends. We adjust the tension on the string until the speed of the waves on the string is 24m/s. What is the frequency of the strings fundamental mode of oscillation?

 

I got 1Hz by f = 24/(2*1.2) = 10Hz

In this case the length of the string should equal half of the wavelength.  You can use that to find the frequency.

 

L = λ/2 ⇒ λ = 2L

 

f = v/λ

 

f = v/(2L) = (24 m/s)/[2(1.2 m)] = 10 Hz
