Word problem including radical equations

Question

What does it mean to ‘carry my intermediate computations to at least four decimal places’? The example question and answer confused me more than it did help. ( _/ is the square root sign)

Example question was 5.1=_/9.8d

they worked it like this

5.1^2=(_/9.8d)^2

26.01=9.8d

2.6540...=d

First they squared both sides of the equation to remove the square root sign. Then, they divided both sides by 9.8 to solve for d to get 2.654081633. Then they rounded to four decimal places following the decimal point. I'm not sure why it wasn't rounded to 2.6541 however since 8 > 5.

2.654081633 = d, that is to 9 decimal places.

2.6540 = d, is to 4 decimal places
