The area of the circle is pi*r^2.  Therefore, to get the area of the sector, you multiply the total area of the circle by the fraction of the circle included in the central angle.  So you multiply (50/360)*pi*r^2.

 

Thus:  Area of sector = (50/360)*pi*(18^2) = 45*pi
