4a3 - 49a
Factor out an a
a(4a2 - 49)
Note that 4a2 - 49 is the difference of two squares.
4a2 - 49 = (2a)2 - 72
The formula for the difference of two squares is:
(a2 - b2) = (a+b)(a-b)
So (2a)2 - 72 = (2a+7)(2a-7)
4a3 - 49a = a(2a+7)(2a-7)
