How can I practice my Spanish more in public?

Try to find some conversational groups. Ordering food in a restaurant and speaking to your server is also great!  I always tell my students that we live our language every day so take advantage of every opportunity you can find.

There are so many native Spanish-speakers in the USA now that it is easy to find someone with whom to converse. Use every opportunity as a "field trip" - if you see a clerk in a store with a Spanish name on their badge, begin a conversation. 

If you have a neighbor who is Hispanic, tell him/her you'd like to practice. I agree that conversation groups are good for developing confidence.

Try visiting Hispanic grocery stores in your neighborhood, and start to ask for items in Spanish. And, don't be shy about telling the proprietors that you're learning Spanish and that you'd appreciate their help.

I agree with all the above suggestions. I will also add your personal full immersion in the language. Reading expands your vocabulary but movies and tv series are mostly easy to follow and repetitive enough to give you ideas for dialogue and quick responses. Take every opportunity to interact with native speakers if possible and don’t be afraid of making mistakes, most people will try very hard to understand you and help you out. Good luck!

Meetup.com will often offer conversational groups. That can often be indispensable to practice.

You can attend Spanish workshops and conversational classes. Many are offered in the public libraries at no cost. You could find more information at your local library to see if these are offered.

Try to go to social meeting groups in your are where native and near native speakers gather and conserve about different topics in the target language.

As some others have said, try to find and frequent the places where there are native speakers.  They will speak English to you by habit but tell them you would like to practice Spanish.  I find most are receptive to that.

A great way is to frequently patronize Hispanic stores and restaurants.  While doing so you can practice your Spanish and help a shopkeeper provide for his / her family.

If you use something like the meetup app, you can find conversational spanish meet up groups that go out to lunch or brunch and speak Spanish the entire time.  Google search "Meetup".

When you see someone in public who you think is Hispanic, just start by saying Hola! and see where it goes.   If they say hola back to you, then you could probably say, ¿Cómo está Usted?  Don't be afraid.  Take the plunge and be friendly.
