Andrew Jackson was angry because he won the most electoral votes against three other candidates, John Quincy Adams, Henry Clay, and William Crawford. The thing is he did not win a majority. So, the House of Representatives had to choose. Allegedly, his supporters say Henry Clay, who was Speaker of the House of the time, promised to deliver votes to Adams in exchange for being Secretary of State. Henry Clay did become Secretary of State. Jackson and his supporters called this the corrupt bargain and he never forgot this in the run up to the 1828 election.
