What scientist would study immortality?

I'm writing a story. So say a little girl somehow ingests (swallows) a pearl that possesses a supernatural power of immortality. It gets lodged in the lung-rib cage area and now she can not die, become injured or get sick. If this happened in real life, what kind of scientist would study this?

Hi K! If the pearl lodged inside the girl in your story had scientific relevance, there is ongoing scientific research studying cells and genes activity and how they relate to longevity. Can the pearl energize cells safely? How are internal organs affected? Is the goal to longevity achievable by reversing the aging process? Improving nutrition? These could be some factors in pinpointing which scientists you could theoretically list, in your project. Good luck in your research on this topic! --Shirley
