Thank you for the answer, but what i want to know is how because my question itself is finding the reciprocal of 3and as i understand its always the opposite with the reciprocal therefore my answer becomes 1/(3)-5......Therefore my problem is with the question 35 how is my book getting the answer (1/3), shouldnt the exponent become negative now that its on the other side ? ie.

3= 1/(3)-5

am i just over complicating things?

It is correct that

35 = 1/(3-5)

But the problem asks for the reciprocal of 35, and I showed you 3 equivalent ways to express it.
