Percentage Problem!

Susan made a batch of homemade trail mix with 30% pretzels, 20% Cheerios, 30% Chex, 10% nuts
and 10% M&M’s. She had 24 cups of the mixture, but then added 1 more cup of M&M's. Now, what is
the percentage of each ingredient in the new mixture? You may round off your final answers, if
necessary, to the nearest tenth of a percent.

 

Also what is the strategy used to solve this problem?

So, 0.3(24) = 7.2 cups of pretzels and of Chex

0.2(24) = 4.8 cups of Cheerios

0.1(24) = 2.4 cups of nuts and if M&Ms

 

Adding 1 more cup of M&Ms gives us 3.4 cups of M&Ms.

 

7.2/25 = 28.8% pretzels and 28.8% Chex

4.8/25 = 19.2% Cheerios

2.4/25 = 9.6% nuts

3.4/25 = 13.6% M&Ms
