Question

A man drives for a while at 45mph. realizing that he is running late, he increases his speed to 60 mph and completes his 405-mile trip in 8 hours. How long does he drive 45mph?

 

I cant get it..

8 = total trip time, in hours

t = time driving at 45 

8 - t = time driving at 60

d = total trip distance = 405

 

Using distance = speed x time,

 

d = 45t + 60(8 - t)

 

405 = 45t + 60(8 - t)

 

Can you solve for t (in hours) and finish from here?
