I can't seem to figure out this problem. Can someone please help me and show me how to solve this!? IM SO LOST show me how to solve this!? IM SO LOST

Starting with the parent function f(x)=x2, Braylin adds a positive k to f(x) to form a new function, g(x) = f(x) + k. The result will be that his graph will _____ k units _____.

I've been totally stumped on this one! The thing is, I'm not sure how I would exactly graph this function. Thats why I posted it on here, to get help and have someone explain how to do this function properly.

Chloe, I'm sorry to be so late with this.  I hope this still helps.

If I pick, say, x = 0, then 0^2 = 0, right, so one point is (0,0).  If I say x = -1, then -1^2 is 1, so another point is (-1,1). If x = 1, then 1^2 is 1, so another point is (1,1).  If x = 2 or -2, then y = 4, so two more points are (-2,4) and (2,4).  If x = -3 or 3, then y = 9, so two more points are (-3,9) and (3,9).

If you graph these points, you should have sort of a u-shaped graph.

Now, remembering that f(x) gives us our y coordinates, and our y coordinates tell us where the graph is vertically, if I add to my y coordinate, the graph moves up.  If I subtract from my y coordinate, the graph moves down.

So, if I add k to my y coordinates, it is going to translate vertically the graph up.
