Hi, Christopher,
The place were the syringe was left was important, near a window. Next, the temperature of the water in the syringe rose because the sunlight was contacting it through the window. Imagine what happens to the water molecules as the water heats up. Then imagine why water would end up outside of the syringe, and you have the answer to this problem.
