Would fractions appear in non calculator test?

Im going to do a mock exam soon and would like to know if feactions would come up on non calculator exam

Even if you don't recognize the decimal conversion of common fractions, you can use long division by dividing the smaller value by the larger value to find the decimal equivalency.

 

For example:

 

1/8 becomes

 

 

     0.125

    _______

8 | 1.0000

        8

        ___

         20

         16

         ___

            40

            40

            ___

              0

 

Therefore, /8 = 0.125

Every student should know the values in decimal of any proper fraction with denominator 2, 4, 5, 8 and 10.

 

FYI, and possibly also desirable, are 1/3 = 0.333...  and 1/6 = 0.166666... ⇐these two repeat the 3 or 6 w/o termination.

1/7 = 0.142857 ... (repeats group of these 6 digits forever)

 

Also of interest is 1/9 = 0.111...  and 1/11 = 0,090909... (group 09 repeats forever) 

and 1/12 = 0.08333...

 

5/6 = .8333...

7/8 = 0.875
