what is 1 7/4 times 4/5?

I really need to know what the heck this answer is

Kenneth S.

You should have been taught (an memorized):
1. express each mixed number as an improper fraction.
In this example, 1 7/4 is ridiculous because it's a mixed number with an improper fractional part. Anyway, Tim converted it correctly.
2. Before multiplying (tops times tops, bottoms times bottoms), cancellations are  effected, so that the answers do not have to be reduced to proper fractions. (in this instance, 4s cancelled).

In school, teachers endeavor to teach you principles and practices--students ae obliged to listed, practice and learn. Such skills become lifetime skills.
