-8x -3 = -4x + 5 The goal is to put all constants on one side, all coefficients and variables on the other. We must keep the equation balanced so we do the same action on BOTH sides of the equation. We also use the opposite sign, for so lets add +4x to Both sides.
-8x +4x -3 = 4x -4x +5 the two sides become:
-4x -3 = +5. Now ADD +3 to Both sides (-4x -3 +3 = +5+3) We simplify getting:
-4x = 8. Our last step is to divide both sides by the coefficient of x (-4) so
-4x/-4 = 8/-4 Our final result is x = -2
