You can treat a ratio like this in much the same way as a fraction.  So to express express it in lesser terms, we divide both sides by the common factor 2.

 

4/2:10/2

=2:5

 

To express it in greater terms, we multiply both side by any number.  Let's use 2 again.

 

4*2:10*2

=8:20
