It's true that you should get a negative value. Plugging into the equation, you have 586.75 - 1.5(1938.75) = -2321.375
That's the lower range value. You also need to calculate the upper range using your Q3 value (the formula is Q3 + 1.5*IQR)
Any number outside of this range is an outlier.
