Make a 'top view' drawing (not to scale) showing distance to edge of innermost ring. Add width of ring+distance separating rings, to get to beginning edge of second ring; continue in this way for 7 rings, and add up all of the individual distances (to ring1, width of ring1, separation distance, width of ring2, sep. distance, etc.)

If you made the drawing, showing rings and widths, in a step by step manner as I described, you would obviously be adding a bunch of measurements. No need for multiplication...just add each & every measurement mentioned in those steps. Of course, repeated additions of certain numbers can be treated as multiplication, if you like. But this is best understood when you draw the figure (top view) of the stated situation. You must come up with the right answer if you make a correct figure.
