in the year 2016 the cost of gasoline was 2.11 a gallon. in 2017 it is now 2.24. what is the percentage increase from 2016 to 2017

Increase = New Number - Original Number, then divide by the original number and mult by 100. So....

 

(2.24-2.11)/2.24= .058

 

.058*100=  5.8%
